AVs, city of Brest. Smoke rising up in many places (under artillery fire.) An American Sgt, Clayton H From, of the 2d Bn, 2d Inf Div, has improvised away of clearing trip wires ahead of the infantry. A grenade with the head removed is placed on a grappling hook.

Re-enacted sequence : The Sgt demonstrates a grappling hook fitted on an M-1 rifle and fired the same as a grenade. A rope is attached which makes it possible to pull the hook back, detonating mines in the immediate area and making way for infantry advance.
