Résumé  The Gilded Cage is a 1916 silent film drama directed by Harley Knowles and starring Alice Brady.
After the assassination of her parents, the king and queen of Balkany, Princess Honore becomes the new monarch, although she is completely dominated by her prime minister, the Baron Stefano. Hoping to learn more about her discontented subjects, Honore goes out among them disguised as a peasant and soon falls in love with Prince Boris, who has renounced his title in order to become the leader of the people. Then, fearing the prince's power, Stefano has him thrown in jail, along with the disguised queen. Honore manages to escape, but can do nothing to stop Boris' execution, which Stefano has ordered. Just as Boris is about to be killed, however, a people's rebellion begins. The revolutionaries save Boris and kill Stefano, and then support Honore when she regains the throne and announces her engagement to Boris.
