Four Sons is an American silent film directed by John Ford, released in 1928. Frau Bernle lives with her four sons in the Bavarian village of Burgendorf. One of them, Joseph, leaves for the United States with the savings she gives him. The Great War breaks out. Her other sons, Franz and Johann, are called up to serve and are killed on the Russian front. Andrea, the youngest, is in turn conscripted.
In the United States, Joseph—now a grocer, married and a father—also joins the ranks after his new country enters the war… They will meet on a battlefield. After the war, Joseph returns to America and invites his mother to come and live with him and his family. |
